Who is Parry Ray?
In a turn of events that many screenwriters would deem too unlikely,
UK female singer/song writer Parry Ray has secured herself the starring
role in a brand new drama series (indeed the show is even named after her).
The series airing on TV corresponds with the release of PARRY RAY'S
album, tipped as a debut of modern Jazz classics.
Back in 2006, the future didn't seem so rosy for Parry. The mother
of two was busy pounding on the doors of an uninterested music industry
desperaten to promote her mix of trad Jazz and blues self penned music. "It was
a tough time" she recalls "The record companies either were completely
disinterested or wanted to turn me into some kind of Amy Winehouse tribute act!"
It was during this period though that a chance encounter brought her
to the attention of Kash Films who were looking for a new face to front
their newTV drama. "We first saw Parry perform in a very low key support slot
at some London jazz club on a Tuesday night" Recalls Simon Marlow the show's
director. "Her performance was great, spot on basically and I remember saying
to Phil (The show's producer) that it was such a shame she was a singer not an
actor."
However at this point fate intervened and convinced the pair that
Parry may well indeed be the star they were seeking. "She was being heckled by
some drunk guy" recalls Phil "And without missing a beat or note she
somehow managed to drop kick a dry Martini she was drinking and it landed
perfectly on this guys head, like a dunces hat or something!" It was this
stylish display that had the pair in hysterics and encouraged them to
approach her.
"Honestly, at the time we were really struggling to cast the lead in
this show, and we may not have ever spoken to Parry if things had gone
differently, but she turned out to be exactly what we were looking
for and perfect for our starring role...more than perfect actually".
Parry Ray has been in production for the last 18 months and during
that period the real Parry has definitely stamped her mark over
proceedings, not only playing the lead but also writing and performing much of the
soundtrack that heavily accompanies & conpliments the series. 'PARRY RAY' is a
dark gritty drama set in West London. The story line see Parry getting
mixed up with the capital's hardest vice lords as she becomes a big draw in
club-land. Previews of the series has seen it described as a Film
Noir series of the millennium extending into comments that Parry herself
is without doubt a true femme fatale.
